Fried Golfer

Tiger Woods' problem was too many girlfriends.  Sergio Garcia can't seem to hold on to one.  These guys could not be more different.

Tiger's disdain for Garcia is obvious.  Sergio's dislike for Woods is explicit.  The spat boiled over the week before last at the Players Championship when Garcia blamed a flubbed 3-wood on Woods stirring up the crowd and criticized Woods for not being the "nicest guy."  Tiger responded by labeling Garcia as a serial complainer.

Last night Garcia ratcheted up his anti-Tiger campaign with a racially tinged remark.

This morning Garcia says he is sorry.  Then he said all the wrong things.  More than once he said his apology extended to those who he "may have offended."  Sergio claimed the remark was not intended to be racial, that he merely made a stupid mistake and he thinks it is time to move on.  Not racial?  What else could it be?

Incredibly, Garcia said he was ignorant of essentially the same  remark made in 1997 by Fuzzy Zoeller after Woods won his first Masters.  Tiger refused to bless Zoeller with a staged apology.  Zoeller was hounded by critics and the press for years to the point that his career on the big tour was prematurely ended.   At this point Garcia has no idea how the weight of his remark is going to crush him.  Frankly, it will be deserved.
